new album TAKE IT ALL is released:
The lyrically brilliant sophomore album fromGideon Conn instantly captivates; the opening track and lead single ‘Fall Under Tokyo’ is probably the most accessible and inviting on the record with its sweeping synths adding layer-upon-layer of detail to back up Conn’s vocals. The singer effortlessly traverses a landscape of melody and rap, often switching from one to the other many times over the space of a few minutes.
Take It All is a clearly personal endeavour, the triumphant ‘Colours’ is as close to a masterpiece as any artist can get and the wonderfully dark ‘Eveline’, with its gothic undertones, is a delightful detour. Conn has clear influences, including the likes ofScroobius Pip, Outkast and Badly Drawn Boy, and these inspire and permeate his work, but he never runs the risk of emulating any of his contemporaries. Take It All is as unique a record as we’ve heard this year. (Colin Polonowski for Digital Fix)
